In the 1960’s a group of charter members built the area’s first gated golf community on 2000 acres around the beautiful Watson’s Lake in Pinehurst. The Country Club of North Carolina today has two championship golf courses, over 300 homes and is now one of many gated golf community options available to golfers and families in the Sandhills. One of the most recent developments, boasting championship golf courses designed by Fazio, is Forest Creek located on Airport Road. Jack Nicklaus is associated with the gated community at the popular National Golf Club, and Arnold Palmer with the Mid-South Club just down the road. Of the Pinehurst Resort Courses, only Fairwoods on No. 7 is set up as a private, gated golf neighborhood.
